Can we use bikes we already have in the On Bike Share System? Yes! The On Bike Share system is designed so that you can start with the bike fleet you already. This makes it easy to automate the bike fleet you already have. However, over time, you will likely find that as your existing bikes are ready for replacement, you will recognize the benefits of our chainless bicycles. Our innovative chainless bicycles will last longer, are easier to maintain, and will provide a better experience for your users.
What are the advantages of your chainless bicycles for bike share use? Our bicycles are easy to operate - they use a twist grip shifter on the right hand side to make shifting fast and convenient. Our chainless design also fully encloses all the greasy, messy parts of the bike to users will not get grease on their pants or hands, and can't get anything caught in the chain. Our chainless bikes also last longer than chain bikes, so they are available more often. Our bikes also use puncture resistant tires to reduce flats and keep the bike running longer. Plus, with our bikes, they are more resilient to the elements, and can be left outside more of the year for longer riding seasons. For more information, click HERE.
How many speeds do your bicycles have? Our bicycles can be configured with either 3-speeds or 8-speeds depending on the terrain. The 3-speeds are more economical and provide a range suitable for rolling terrain and shorter rides (0-3 miles). Our 8-speed bikes offer a much wider gear range, including lower gears to make it easier to climb hills. This makes the 8-speed more suitable for longer and hillier rides.
How do you shift gears? The bicycles are equipped with a twist grip shifter located on your right hand. The shifter includes a gear indicator that always indicates what gear you are in. A simple twist of the wrist changes the gears. Best of all, with our bikes, you can change gears at any time - while pedaling, coasting or at a complete stop. This feature makes the bikes easy enough for beginners to gain confidence quickly.
How fast are your bikes? Our bikes are designed for recreational rides, but is ultimately determined by the rider. An experienced rider can cruise at up to 20-mph on our 8-speed bikes; however most riders will likely cruise between 8-12 mph on both the 3-speed and 8-speed models.
What size people can ride your bikes? Our unisex frame is designed for a wide range of riders. The optimum rider size for our bike frame is 5'0" to 6'1".
What maintenance is required for your chainless bikes? We recommend that the tires, brakes and all bolts be checked periodically. The shaft drive will also benefit from periodic lubrication to ensure a smooth, quiet, efficient ride.
Do we get training on how to maintain the bikes? Yes. As part of your implementation, we provide training on both the operation and maintenance of our bikes.
How do you lock the bikes? Our bikes have an integrated U-lock that is built into the frame. This highly secure lock provides an easy way to secure the bikes to any standard bike rack. When the bike is not locked to a rack, the U-lock bar stores neatly on the frame.
What happens if someone loses the key for the bike lock? Our bikes are made so that locks can be inexpensively replaced if a key is lost or stolen. It is up to you whether you want to charge your users for any costs associated with the lock replacement if they are responsible.
How long can someone keep a bike once they check it out from the key station? This is entirely up to you. The backend software you use to manage the system can be configured any way you want. You can set how long users can keep a bike before it needs to be checked back in. The system can also send automatic email alerts to you and the user if they exceed this limit. You also have the ability to lock someone out of the system if they abuse the system rules.
Where can the key stations be installed? The key station is designed so it is installed into the wall of any building or foyer. It requires power and an internet connection. We provide the specifications for the installation, so it can be done by your facilities department, or by our worldwide team of service technicians.
How do you operate the key station? The key stations are designed to be user-friendly. The user starts by swiping or waving their ID card over the card reader. If you choose, you can also rquire the user to enter a PIN on the touch screen display. The door to the key station will open and one of the keys will be illuminated on the panel. The user removes the illuminated key and closes the door to the key station. If the door is not closed, and alarm will sound. They take the key to the matching bike at the nearby bike rack and unlock the bike. For more information on the key station, click HERE.
Do we get training on how to use and manage the key stations? Yes. As part of your implementation, we provide training on both the use of the key station and comprehensive training on the software management system.
