Frequently Asked Questions
How does the On Bike Share program work on our campus? On Bike Share offers students a fun and healthy way to get around campus or to access local destinations. Whether riding from building to building for class, to reach residence halls or dining options, or to reach nearby shopping, bikes encourage students to reduce their reliance on cars. Plus, in many cases, bikes are faster than cars because you can park closer to final destinations and reduce waiting time at intersections.
Are there designated pick-up and drop-off locations for the bicycles?Yes, the On Bike Share system will have designated bike stations where students pickup and return bikes. These stations can be placed anywhere you want ton campus - all they racks need is a concrete surface (no electrical is needed).
What are the costs associated with using the On Bike Share service? When you purchase an On Bike Share system, you own it. The bikes and racks are yours. You only pay an annual software license fee to maintain the App and software that is used to provide the automated checked and tracking of the bike use.
Is there a membership or subscription fee for students and faculty? This is up to you. On Bike Share does not charge any fees to riders. But it is up to you if you want to charge fees to students.
How long can students keep the bike? This is up to you. It's your system; your rules. Typically our customers encourage riders to limit ride times as a courtesy to other riders. Details of this can be provided to students in your system rules and help screen in the App.
Who maintains the bikes? It's your choice. If you have an on-site facilities or maintenance team, they can maintain the bicycles using the tools we provide and the library of videos available on our Customer Resources Site. Alternatively, we offer on-site bike maintenance plans that include monthly on-site service visits to inspect, tune-up and service bikes. All maintenance is recorded so you have a log of all work being done.
What happens if a university bicycle is damaged or stolen while in a student's possession? If a student doesn't return a bicycle for any reason, they are financially responsible for the bike. This was detailed in the system rules and the waiver that they must accept to join the system. You can charge a student's account and/or withhold graduation paperwork until their account is settled.
Are there specific hours of operation for the On Bike Share program?Setting Hours of Operation is an option in the admin software. Riders can return bikes but can't checkout bikes after hours.
Can students reserve a university bike in advance, or is it first-come, first-served?The On Bike Share system is a first-come, first-served system. There is no way for riders to reserve a bike.
Is the On Bike Share program available year-round, including during holidays and breaks? This is up to you. Most of our customers in northern states who experience winter conditions (freezing temps, snow, freezing rain, etc) will store the bikes for the winter months. For campuses in southern states, the system can be available all year round.
